At DataChef, we believe in mentorship, and everyone has a mentor. Your mentor is not your TL (or manager or boss!). Even if you feel your team lead could be a good mentor, we recommend you find someone else to benefit from different perspectives.

Unlike the Team lead, a mentor can be anyone in DataChef (or in future, even outside DataChef) to who you feel comfortable enough to open your kimono and talk.

When and how to choose your mentor

During your DOP, start dating people who are tagged as Internal SME on Mentorship, ask them for a short coffee chat and refer to your guts if you feel a click there or not. We recommend you stay with same mentor for longer timespan but of course you can change your mentor anytime in future.

How to make most out of being mentored

Be open to be helped. Your mentor is more of a friend than a colleague and he definitely does NOT represent the company or has any input in your Compensation etc. If you want, he can relay your message, feelings or a version of that to the ‣ but by default what you share with him is not gonna be recorded, asked for or shared anywhere.

Be first mover and reach out to your mentor as often as you and him are ok with.

Be flexible, and understanding and work around his schedule even if you need to wake up earlier or sign off later than usual.

Anything you wish you can talk about: share uncensored feelings (highs and lows), vent your frustrations, ask for advice on dealing with conflicts, a tough client or chef, managing your stress, building a new habit etc.
